IFSA Updates
IFSA FAQs
How many IFSA events should I sign up for as a U15/U19?
All Freeski athletes should participate in at least one competition during the season. Starting this year the IFSA awards points for a maximum of 4 competitions during the regular season. Your regular season ranking is based on the best 3 points finishes of your FIRST FOUR events. So for example if someone is doing two 3* Nationals they should not compete in more than two 2* Regionals before the 3* Nationals are completed.
Some athletes may also compete in the invitational championship events including the Freeride Junior World Championship mid-season in Europe, and the IFSA Junior Freeride Championships (JFC) at the end of the season. Your end of season ranking is the sum of the best 3 of 4 regular season finishes plus your JFC finish score.
So with this in mind our guidance is to compete in 4 IFSA sanctioned comps, not counting friendlies or JFC. Friendly comps do not score points and do not count toward your seeding or ranking. We have 2 friendlies on the East Coast:
How many events should I sign up for as a U12?
U12 athletes need to compete in at least one IFSA sanctioned event to qualify to participate in U12 Championships at the end of the year.
We would like to see our U12 athletes participate in three competitions if possible. Friendly Comps are a great way to get your feet wet and Jay Peak would be the first opportunity of the year. The Smuggs 2* IFSA sanctioned event on 2/4/24 is a great one because it's on our home turf and won’t require travel or lift ticket expenses. U12 athletes may wish to finish the season with the Smuggs Friendly comp in the spring.

Breckenridge is high and we are going to feel it coming from here. The town is about 9,600ft above sea level and the summit is 12,998ft. For reference Big Sky's base is 7,510ft and the Lone Peak summit is 11,166ft; Kicking Horse's base is 3,900ft and the summit is 8,218ft. We will want a few days to feel acclimated to the elevation and so our athletes can be on top of their game.
We'll send out more details and coordination ideas to those interested in attending in the upcoming weeks!
